Blackened Tilapia

I was nervous to try to blacken any fish for fear I’d burn or over cook it. Turns out it’s not that hard to cook correctly. I am definitely going to be making this again!

Ingredients

2 tilapia fillets (or any white fish)
2 tablespoons smoked papirka
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
dash of dried thyme
1 tablespoon grapeseed oil
lemon juice (optional for serving)

Instructions

1. Combine all dry ingredients
2. Coat fish with seasoning (I’m lazy and I put all the dry ingredients on a plate and plop the fillets in the seasoning and shake of the excess)
3. Let fish sit out at room temperature for 10-15 minutes (with or without seasoning, this helps them cook quicker)
4. In a skillet heat the grapeseed oil on medium-high heat.
5. Once hot, add the fillets to the pan and good for 2-3 minutes per side until the seasoning appears black
6. Serve with lemon juice if desired
